Freedom of Expression Award to Rune Halseth

Zurich, 11 June 2026

The Norwegian Free Word Foundation (“Fritt Ord”) has awarded this year’s Tribute Award to Rune Halseth, a key representative of victims of the NAV scandal. Mr Halseth’s case, which raises fundamental issues of legal accountability and individual rights, has been declared admissible by the European Court of Human Rights. Baudenbacher Law AG represents Mr Halseth in those proceedings.

The award was presented jointly to Mr Halseth as a representative of the Association for Victims of the NAV Scandal and to Professors Ingunn Ikdahl and Christoffer Conrad Eriksen (University of Oslo), in recognition of their respective contributions to examining and bringing greater transparency to the NAV scandal.

Fritt Ord emphasised that the award recognises efforts to give a human face to the legal violations, to organise and support affected individuals, and to promote transparency and public access to information.

The recognition also underscores the broader importance of effective legal remedies and public scrutiny in cases involving systemic violations of individual rights.
